- Facilitation of access to primary education
- Formation of curricular framework and syllabus for primary education
- Promotion of inclusive education
- Formation and publication of text books for primary course subjects/disciplines
- Improvement of standards of primary education through development of institutional infrastructures related to teaching and learning, and also improvements of institutional governance
- Innovation in teaching and learning pedagogies
- Determination of learning outcomes of students through examination and evaluation
- Improvement of skills of teachers through orientation to evolving and contemporary course contents
- Holding of Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) (for Classes I-V, Primary)
- Recommendation of candidates for recruitment to the posts of Asst Teacher in Primary Schools across the state as an examining/recommending body
- Trans-district transfer of Primary Teachers and Staff of District Primary School Councils and Primary School Councils
- Determination of holidays in a calendar year/academic year
- Supervision of achievement surveys for students
- Recognition of affiliation to institutes willing to offer two year D.El.Ed. programme
- Conferment of diplomas to candidates who have completed D.El.Ed. programme successfully under this Board
- Participation as a constituent body in framing policy by the national policy framing body
- Holding of annual sports and games for primary students across the State to promote self esteem, unity, holisticity, inclusiveness, development of physical and mental health, development of leadership ability, developments of leadership and social skills and in aiming to develop future sports and games skills of the countries
