West Bengal Board of Primary Education is the apex academic regulator of primary
(elementary) education in the State of West Bengal. The board has served a commendable
role during the last one decade in improving environment, infrastructure, classroom
ambience, curricular contents, evaluation method, student feedback process, health care
and students’ co-curricular activities in all Government aided and Government sponsored
primary schools across the State.
I’m glad to convey you all that our State, West Bengal, has topped the chart among large
states in India in the “Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Index (2023)", an indicator
of literacy among children in the pre-primary and primary levels. The State has achieved
an overall score of 58.9, much above the national average of 48.3. I take this
opportunity to convey our profound gratitude to Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal,
Smt Mamata Banerjee, for her kind inspiration, advice and policy institutions to sustain
and improve qualities in school education domain in our state; and also convey our
respectful gratitude to Professor Bratya Basu, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Departments
of School Education and Higher Education, Government of West Bengal for his kind advice,
inspiration, administrative support, impregnation and implementation of new and
innovative academic policies, and able holistic leadership in driving the primary
education of our State to the top position in our country. I convey my congratulation to
School Education Department, Government of West Bengal, all Chairpersons and Staff of
District Primary School Councils/Primary School Councils; all District Inspector of
Schools; all Assistant Inspector of Schools and Sub-inspector of Schools in all
districts, and other Officials and Staff at the State and District levels related to the
governance of primary education in achieving this success. I convey my special thanks to
all Primary Teachers in our State for their meritorious service for this successful
achievement.
Under the kind supervision and guidance of Hon’ble Education Minister Professor Bratya
Basu, the Board has performed superbly during the last 8 (eight) months. The Board has
conducted TET-2022 and declared result in a State of the Art manner within 59 days of
taking examination very transparently, and organised and conducted Annual State Level
Sports Meet at Jalpaiguri in February, 2023, and also organised a Two Day State level
Orientation Training Symposium for Teachers in Primary Schools to augment excellence in
Primary Education. At present, the Board is conducting Interview and Aptitude test of
candidates for recruitment to the posts of Asst. Teacher in Government Aided and
Government Sponsored Primary Schools across the State very transparently. Besides, the
Board has initiated certain measures to govern all the affiliated Primary Teachers
Training Institutes those are offering D.El.Ed. programmes in affiliating and/or
renewing affiliations and conducting examinations. I do hope all the affiliated PTT
Institutes will be in ideal state to exhibit their excellency in imparting the course.
I’m honoured to give a message to all concerned that the West Bengal Board of Primary
Education will certainly prove its excellence in implementing the mandate of the
Government of west Bengal in sustaining the primary (or elementary) education in our
state at topmost position in our country. The Board is determined to execute all
responsibilities as mandated by the Government of West Bengal in School Education
Department through utmost dedication, transparency and honesty for the good cause of
primary education in our State.
